She was a on a quest of discovery.
He was on a quest for revenge.
Together they would discover a second chance.
Brenna Cameron travels from Scotland after losing someone she loves in search of family she didn’t know existed. Alone now in the world, Brenna makes an arduous journey, following the trail of discovery to Briarwood, Montana. Here she meets Ethan Gallagher, and the rest of the Gallagher clan. Only with their help is she able to discover lost family, heal old wounds and embark on a treacherous confrontation with a man who destroyed her family.
As head of the Gallagher clan, Ethan has more than enough to occupy his thoughts and time-he didn’t need the complication of Brenna Cameron and he certainly didn’t need the trouble that came with her. Ethan takes on the unwanted duty of self-appointed protector to the headstrong Scot, only to discover there is such a thing as second chances and more to life than revenge.
Gallagher’s Pride is the first book I have read by MK McClintock. I purchase the Kindle book a few years ago, but just never got around to reading it. I won the audio version a few months ago, and decided to give it a listen. Gallagher’s Pride is one of those books that I wish I had read or listened to sooner.
I enjoyed the story immensely, and I loved the characters! I enjoy watching westerns on television, but never thought I would enjoy reading or listening to one. I think that may be why I put off reading this book for so long.
Brenna Cameron is a headstrong woman, and she is a Scot. Those two things made me like her right off the bat. Soon after her father dies, Brenna thinks she is alone in the world with no living relatives. She soon discovers that she has family in Montana, so off she goes to Montana by herself.
Once in Montana Brenna has a run in with a few unsavory characters, but she is no timid little miss. She stands her ground, only to have Ethan Gallaher come to her rescue. She is not sure how she feels about this, but something about him makes her trust Ethan.
Brenna finally meets Nathan Hunter, her grandfather, and understands why her mother and father never spoke of him to her. He is a mean and cruel man, and has no desire to be a grandfather.
Gallagher’s Pride is not a long book. The audio book is only about 6 hours long, but in this short period of time the author made me care about what happened to the characters. I felt invested in the story, and the plot. The secondary characters, Maybell (house keeper, and cook, but more like family), and Ethan’s brothers made the story that much more enjoyable.
The narrator of the audible version is Alan Phillip Ormond, and he does an excellent job of narrating the story. When you listen to an audio book, and the narrator is a good one, it makes the story come to life. Well, at least it does for me. He doesn’t speak to fast, and I wasn’t bothered at all when he did the female voices. That is a big plus!
I will warn you though before you start reading this book, or listening to the audio version, that the story ends without resolving a few of the story lines. I wasn’t too upset by that (I would have been normally), because I had the audible version of the 2nd book, Gallagher’s Hope. If cliffhangers bother you, I recommend getting the 2nd book immediately.
This book does have some profanity in (damn, hell), but none are are vulgar. I recommend this book to anyone that enjoys western romances, real cowboys, beautiful scenery. This book had just the right amount of excitement to keep you listening.
I won an Audible copy of this book in a contest from the author. All opinions and thoughts in this review are my own.
